This is from my archives.
ISO 400, 800mm, 1/800, f5.6, handheld, full frame image.
While learning photography using film rolls, the rule of the thumb was that the shutter speed should be 1/focal length to ensure a sharp image while handholding. These days with the use of Image Stabilisation, we often go below that shutter speed. However, in this image, I had stuck to the rule.

In odisha, I don't remember seeing any brown feathers in the pied kingfisher. Around 2001-2002 they were numerous in the nallahs in bhubaneshwar. We had constructed our house in old town bhubaneshwar and there were many pied kingfishers hovering near by. Once I slowly climbed up the wall of a nearby garage to photograph a pied kingfisher and I had got a closeup with a 300mm lens on a film camera using slide film. Even from such close distance I don't remember seeing any brown.
