That was my first sighting of black jackal.
I am not sure its a hybrid one or melanistic ,
experts pls confirm .
Four of them are in normal jackal type and two of them are in black.
As i was carrying my 100mm macro lens got few habitat click only.
Clicked from my native ,Calicut,kerala.
canon 7d mii with canon 100m macro f9.5 iso 1600, 1/250 hand held.Little cropped image.

This is very interesting sighting of melanistic jackals. I would love to see them in person. For how long was the sighting? Is this on the outskirts of a village or in a wildlife sanctuary? Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Rare and lovely. The black jackals are found in places where rainfall is high, undergrowth is dense... SW, Himalaya foothills. M. Krishnan has seen them. And even they live at Amta in bushes on bank of Damodar river in Howrah district for generations.
They are not hybrid and why to call them melanistic !
Thanks for sharing. SaktiWild

Amazing sighting. Its great that they continue to survive in the wild outside the sanctuaries. Lucky you sighted them and got both in the frame and even got on looking towards you. Great record. Thanks for sharing.
