Great Cormorants.....Thekkady!

This Great Cormorant family was nestled in a fantastic spot in the lake at Periyar Tiger Reserve!.....there is nobody to disturb them.The occasional boat passes by them.

(Please note that the birds were not disturbed in any way while taking the shot).

It has chosen a nice spot to rear its chick :). Its good you have got eye contact from the chicks as well as the parent. Nice composition. Thanks for sharing.

Cormorants pose a challenge as if slight overexposure leads to the yellow channel becoming overexposed and a bit less means the dark feathers get underexposed. Here the beak area has got overexposed. I guess they are on some dead tree on the water. So predators would find it difficult to reach the nest. You find similar such nesting in many lakes. The boats often move fast and maintain their distance, so the birds are a bit habituated and don't get disturbed. Thanks for sharing.
