Gaur Calves are different in color!

We could see large herd of Gaurs at Periyar Tiger Reserve.We did not recognise these calves as Gaurs initially.We thought them to be Sambar deers!....but on closer look they turned out to be Gaur Calves!

The mothers are enjoying a nice peaceful grazing in the sun, with the calves around. Its good to see there is a healthy population of Gaurs in Periyar. Thanks for sharing.

This is the characteristic colour of young gaur calves. Nice to see three young ones. With protection they can flourish. In Kerala, people poach gaurs for their meat.
