Nikon D750 +70-299+1.4 tc ,ISO 720 , F/5 , 1/400s ,FL 210 mm. We came upon this young tigress stalking a pair of deers .As is the case in majority of hunts this one also failed as the deers sensed her presence and fled the scene .

It is always nice to see a tiger stalking. At the moment the top portion of the image doesn't have much details due to lack of depth of field covering that area. A narrow aperture like f8/9 or higher would have been nice as that would have meant more areas in focus.

The tiger and leopards are stalk and ambush predators. It is not easy for a tiger to manage to move close to deers without them seeing it. Tiger needs to be close enough to launch its sudden powerful charge and catch the deer unaware. Else, the deers are too fast. So too often we see unsuccessful attempts by a tiger in catching its prey.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

The brown background is actually a hillock on the other side of the ravine that is running in the centre .The tiger was hunting on a plateau in the fore ground .The hillock was at considerable distance in the background .

Its rare to witness a stalking scene. It brings out the real behaviour of the tiger. Looks like a young tigress, she will in time become an expert. The shining coat looks nice. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pic of a TIgress!....The stripes have come out well. There are large no of prey species in Kabini which is good for the Tigers!
