This female Sambar deer was smelling this tree probably for the scent mark of a Tiger.....its tail was raised and it was very alert all the time we were ther.From Kabini.

Canon 80D,Canon 100-300 IS II USM,f5.6,1/320,ISO ISO 400 at 164 mm

Nice close sighting of this female. Lovely eyes. The sore spot is cleary visible, which is usually seen in males. Nice capture. Thanks for sharing.

These mammals are in a state of constant alert .The Sambar deer almost always gives a reliable call on the presence of predators . Thanks for sharing .

Nice to see the sore spot in a Sambar. At times the sambar also tear bark of tree and eat.

Their call from close quarters in the silence of night can shake people who have never heard it before. These large animals help sustain tiger population. I somehow like their slow alert walk in the jungle. Thanks for sharing.
