We saw plenty of Barking Deers that too at close quarters at Jjm Corbett!....The safari guide informed us that the alarm call of Barking Deers cannot guarantee presence of Predators.THey alarm call even if they see a snake!....but the calls of Spotted Deers and Sambar Deers definitely tell the proximity of Predators!

The barking deers of Corbett seem to have a more vibrant shade of colour than those in the southern regions. This one looks alert but unfazed . Seems to be quite used to the presence of humans.Nicely captured thanks for sharing.

The barking deers or muntjac get spooked easily. Apart from Tigers and leopards, barking deers also need to be careful about the other lesser carnivores. We humans when we are alone we are more cautious and/or nervous. Using that logic, one can say that barking deers need to be more cautious as they have to spot the predators themselves while deers have more guards in the herd. Nevertheless, a solitary deer stag doesn't easily get alarmed like a barking deer. As far as the coat colour is concerned, there is definitely a variation.

Nice to see it directly looking towards you. Good details in the eyes and the face area. The high ISO has helped here to get more details. Lovely capture. Thanks for sharing.
