Kumble new vice-chief of Karnataka Wildlife Board

Former India Test cricket captain and highest wicket taker Anil Kumble has been appointed as vice-chairperson of Karnataka government’s Board for Wildlife, according to a government order dated October 14.
The position is of the rank of a Minister of State, officials said. “Anil Kumble, ex-national sportsman is appointed the vice-chairperson to the state Board for Wildlife in place of Sri Ananth Hegde Ashisar with immediate effect and until further orders,” read the government order issued in the name of the Governor.
Anil Kumble who retired from international cricket last year but captains the Royal Challengers Bangalore team in the 20:20 format has in the past been associated with wildlife causes. He was also linked to a possible entry into politics on a BJP ticket ahead of the Assembly elections in May last year. He, however, denied this.

Interesting stuff indeed.

Sachin Tendulkar, last month expressed that he is keen to protect India's tigers and forests.

Rahul Dravid participated in Santuary Asia's tiger forum held in Delhi for 2 full days and expressed that he is ready to voice for tiger's cause.

Now, Anil kumble to be appointed as vice-chairperson of Karnataka government’s Board for Wildlife. His brother, Dinesh Kumble is a famed wildlife photographer.

India is maniac about cricket and campaign by big names can have a good reach.

Anil Kumble photographs wildlife as well. I remember having seen one of his leopard images somewhere. Dinesh Kumble has published a book based on his Africa experiences. Some good photos are there in that book.

I am sure that people like Anil Kumble, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid etc can serve as good brand ambassadors and can help in inculcating the appreciation for wildife and wildlerness areas among the masses. From that perspective, the appointment of Anil Kumble augurs well.

Cheers,
