Shot this in Kabini during this summer (May'09), while returning back to the resort this deer was crossing our way.

Barking deers are shy, live in solitude and elusive member of the deer family. It has been named after its call which bears a striking resemblance to the bark of dog. Many of you may be unaware that these deers have life expectancy between 15-25 years.

Nice information.
Scientific name: Muntiacus muntjak

I guess most of the people would have packed their cameras when this sighting happened.
I like the composition. The walking pose looks nice. I always like their body colour.

Cheers,

Nice composition. Sharp. Its quite difficult to photograph a barking deer and that also in so open surroundings. Liked the low angle and the walking pose. Thanks for the information.
