Nice sharp image. I like the head angle. The cut off tail seems a bit of a minus. Wondering how it would look if you had cropped it off beyond just the rump.

PS: Canon EF 400mm F4 L IS USM ??? :)

PS: Canon EF 400mm F4 L IS USM ??? :)

It was a typographical error. I used a 300mm F4 L IS USM plus a 1.4x TC. (It was a Sigma TC, which I discarded quickly). Canon has a 400mm F4 IS DO lens and at that time I was told that it doesn't take teleconverters well.

There is a very slight movement of the head. So the legs, body, leaves etc are all sharp, but the head has moved. I was waiting for this tiger to come out and drink. So had positioned my vehicle perfectly to get a side on position. I had calculated the shutter speed and had decided that with a TC attached, the attention would be on the face and body and the reflection of the eye in the muddy water.

Today, I would have clicked the same scene with a higher ISO as these days, I rarely shoot with ISO 100. I would have used ISO 200. That would have given me a shutter speed of 1/60 at f5.6. But I would not have photographed at f5.6. At f2.8 I would have got a shutter speed of 1/250. I would be clicking at f2.8 and f3.5 with my 400mm f2.8 IS USM lens.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
