I think the light in back ground is too bright. But these birds just rest at the place where light is not ideal to shoot. I was lucky enough to get this shot little closer that day. Wish I had my apartment one floor up so that these birds will be at eye level.

I agree with your self critique. I like the composition, although would have liked the inclusion of the tail in full of the bird on the left.

These birds have long tail. So it becomes difficult to include the complete tail in the horizontal composition without zooming out. Some more sharpness would have been good.

Nice symmetry. Photographing the bee-eaters is quite difficult with the black strip near the eye. Agree about the light. Wish you get them in good light. Thanks for sharing.
