I am trying to see the limits of this camera. I don't crop. However, lot of people crop heavily. This posting is for them.

I was testing the autofocus and hence clicked this even though the distance was great. This image is cropped about 81%.
The file size after cropping is 2159x1440. So it is equivalent to an image from a 9.3 MP camera.

Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 400mm f2.8 L IS USM, EF 2xII, ISO 2000, f9, 1/3200, about 81% crop.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

The details are still nicely visible. A hint of background noise is visible but none that would make this image unusable.
Great piece of equipment...
:)
The AF seems spot on too... considering the crop.

The details are nice. Even with such a big crop, the noise is not that visible and focus is good. At ISO 2000 with 80% crop surely the image is more than a record shot. Quite good performance. Thanks for sharing.

I was using 45 point AF with all of them selected. Four AF points on the top line were on the wings. And one was very near to the beak. :-)
