Photographed this buzzard from the car while travelling along the Mumbai-Pune highway today.

Some info about the bird:
The white-eyed buzzard Butastur teesa is unrelated to the true buzzards (genus Buteo). It is a medium sized hawk identified by the distinct white iris, white throat and white neck patch. Inhabits dry country and cultivation, and keeps away from well-wooded tracts. Feeds on insects, lizards, frogs etc.

Camera Model Name Canon PowerShot SX10 IS
Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE
Tv (Shutter Speed) 1/400
Av (Aperture Value) 5.7
ISO Speed 100
Cropped.

Self critique: I should have tried moving to avoid the pole behind the bird's head...(didn't notice it while clicking :()

Thanks for looking, comments and critiques awaited.

Nice sharp shot Abhishek, great eye contact. I think F8 would have been ideal. Thanks for sharing and info as well.

Hi Praveen, thanks for the reply.
You say f8 would have been ideal. Any particular reason? Because the bird was not very close by, so I dont think DOF would be an issue here. As I have mentioned, this is a crop.

I can understand your excitement having spotted this beauty on the road. Taking a deep breath and evaluating the scene always helps. Avoiding the pole would have strengthened the image. Was it a construction site? The information about buzzards is good. Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Thanks Sabyasachi,
There are a number of farmhouses along this stretch of the highway. The pole in the BG is an electric pole, and the buzzard was perched on a stone post fencing one of the farms.

Sighting a raptor on the highway is great :). Nice pose and engaging eye contact. Wish for a natural perch. Thanks for sharing.
