The vertical composition is nice. The details and the colours are good. Is it a Forest Calotes? Liked the colour image better. Thanks for sharing.

Good image. I like the colour version better.
It does look like a calotes, probably a non-breeding male forest calotes Calotes rouxi...How large was it?

It was around 12 inches from nose to tail. Im not sure if it is a forest calotes. The radial patterns around the eye and the alternate banding on the back seem to suggest otherwise.

The radial bands and dorsal stripes are seen in non-breeding males and juvenile males of the sps. Calotes rouxi. At first glance, the lizard looked relatively big to me, but ~12 inches is about the size of an adult Forest Calotes. So I would say this is an adult male Forest Calotes Calotes rouxi.
One strange thing: The J.C.Daniel book and wikipedia both do not mention this species from east India... both say it is found abundantly in the Western Ghats.
