Nice clean background. A tight vertical close up would also have worked. It would have been great if the light were from the left, so that the shadow of the branch would not have fallen on the bird.

Not sure why you needed to move to a compact camera with a smaller sensor than a DSLR. The Panasonic FZ35 has 1280x720p video as compared to full HD video of Canon cameras. The best quality sound is obtained with external microphones.

I like the pose. Since the bird is small in the frame, some more points of interest such as clouds in the background would have enhanced the image. Agree about an off centred composition. Thanks for sharing.
