Created this image at Bandipur. It is from the same series where the I had posted the elephant bathing image earlier. The herd had come to drink water, when there were some alarm calls and the calf and the other herd went away. The mother stayed and continued to drink water and splash water.

Canon 50D, 100-400mm L IS USM, ISO 200, f8, 1/200, hand held, full frame

Wow! Lovely image. Is the light a bit harsh?

Good capture.

The calf seems to be just over a year old. Calves less than 1 year of age will fit in comfortably under their mothers.

For mee too light seems to be harsh.

This was photographed in the afternoon safari at around 5pm but the light was still strong. It was in the open and the light was falling directly. After half an hour the light became soft. Thanks for the comments.

Nice moment captured. The light is still strong, however, the calf despite being in the mom's shadow is well lit. On a clear cloudless day, the sunlight on a summer can be strong.
Cheers,

I agree about the strong light. Since the other elephant is looking the other way, I believe a central composition might have worked better here. Just a suggestion :)
The emotions are well captured. Thanks for sharing.
