Tough lighting situation with dark background and the bright sky at the left. They are at the completely opposite ends of the exposure scale. The dynamic range of the cameras are not as good as the human eye. So though we can see complete dark and white in the same scene, the cameras have difficulty in recording those. It is always better to try to compose with similar tonalities.

In this case, it would have been better to give a positive exposure compensation, so that the dark areas would have appeared brighter.

Please post the camera, lens, shutter speed, aperture, ISO and amount of crop details, so that the critiquing can be better.

The eye contact is nice. Wish it was perched on a natural perch. Agree about the exposure compensation. Do post EXIF and equipment details.
