Had shot this BFO sometime back at Bandipur, he was at a distance and I too messed it up with the settings, should have increased ISO:(

This is fine for a record shot. You got a golden opportunity to see this bird in action. I have always seen it perched in shaded area of the forest. Never in water like this. Lucky you.

The eye contact is nice. Difficult conditions to photograph since the background is bright. An horizontal composition would have also looked good. Higher ISO as you have said would have helped. Did you give a exposure compensation? Thanks for sharing.
