Supposed to be a rare one in Kabini. A very elusive bird (an extremely shy one at that - flies away at the sight of humans even far away) we had to stalk it for hours (literally crawl) to get even within a range of the 500 mm lens with a 1.4 TC range.

Add to it, light was very poor and had to bump up the ISO. Beanbag mounted since we were crawling.

40D, APO 150-500, F6, 1/800, ISO 1600, 1.4 X TC used on a full focus of 500 mm

Nice catch. Wouldn't expect to find a reef egret in Kabini :).
I would have liked a bit more of the rock included. Nice smooth BG.
Is this the transition plumage stage?

Good to know about the efforts made for an image... The image looks fine to me... Wonder what a reef egret was doing in Kabini. Lost its way had it? :)
Thanks for sharing.
