This Female paradise flycatcher made a surprise appearance in a Mixed species Foraging flock which I had come across many times before. The flock is usually led by Greater racket tailed drango and has upto 10 different species . It is believed the mimicry of the Greater racket tailed drango plays an important role in the assembling of these hunting parties.

The bird was in the shadows . Cropped image ,500D, 55-250, 250mm, Aperture priority F5.6, 1/100, ISO-400, +1 Ev

Nice shot with the 55-250. :) Wish you had got in in better light. I feel it's a good shot given the conditions.

The composition is nice. More sharpness would have been better. Good effort with the 55-250mm lens.

Nice eye contact. The perch and the details are good. Nice observation about the behaviour. Where was this photographed? Thanks for sharing.

Nice image and good eye contact. It is not easy to photograph paradise flycatchers especially the male that has a long tail. Good job

I agree. It is not easy to photograph these birds. You have done well despite your focal length limitations. Wish you can get it perched closer to you sometime. Moving slightly to the right would have helped you get more separation between the crest and the branch. Look forward to more.

Cheers,

Thanks for the comments guys. Although i have seen this bird many times it hardly stays perched and keeps flitting. Hope to catch the male someday.

@ Mrudul this is on the outskirits of Calicut.
