There are many benefits of shooting in RAW. One of those is the white balance. I shoot in Auto White balance and do the final tweaking, if required during post processing.

On one of the days, I had missed the right turn to Ranganathittu and drove ahead for about 10 kms or so and then turned back. Rushed as the light was getting strong and jumped into a boat. Needless to say that I forgot to check the white balance. The result you will see in the next image. Unlike the jpeg, in raw, the white balance data is not written over, but just embedded in the image. So you can tweak it.

Painted stork - Mycteria leucocephala, Ranganathittu from a boat.

Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 400mm f2.8 L IS USM, EF 2xII, ISO800, f13, 1/1600, full frame image.

Cheers,

If I would have shot with jpeg, the image would have been like this.

Beautiful. The water falling looks good. The images points out the difference in RAW and jpeg nicely. Thanks for sharing.

Nice comparison. The image looks nice. Love the water wall. The angle is nice. The greens in the background look good. I dont mind the bit of rock on the left.

The narrow aperture is good here. Thanks for sharing.

PS: Was this when we had driven on the wrong route last year? In fact Exactly a year. :)

Excellent capture Sabyasachi. Frozen in Time shot and lovely info too :) but Damn, I don't have RAW mode in my camera . BTW...Don't you think 'Rock Tip' behind the Painted stork looks like crocodile's nose :D

Cheers, Rahul

Rahul,
I had seen the rock earlier. After reading your comment, it now appears like a crocodile as well. Crocodile trying to catch a drinking painted stork. :D May be you can draw such a scene nicely.

Bibhav, I had clicked this earlier this year. I remember that last year too, I had overshot. However, that was after taking the right turn. This year, I was driving fast and forgot to take the right turn. :D Last year was with the Mark II. This was shot with the Mark IV.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
