When you are clicking birds with white feathers, you need to be careful as the white areas tend to get overexposed. In that situation, you need to give a negative exposure compensation. I am not sure whether your camera has got a histogram review function. If so, check that the histogram is not touching the right of the frame.

When you are zooming in, try to use a support like bean bag, tripod etc, so that the image comes sharp.
