Sloth bears always hold their head low (very close to the ground) and coupled with their poor vision they perceive subjects late and this results in close quarter encounters with sloth bears. With wide berth they prefer to flee than to attack.

Couple of months ago I flushed out a huge sloth bear hardly few yards away and with a loud woof it vanished. It could have very easily mauled me and my tracker.
