Shot this in our garden near the poolside this morning, could not go out anywhere so tried testing 500mm lens on this.

Sabyasachi the 3 switches to adjust focal length are confusing however i think I will manage to get there by next week

You will find a difference in sharpness between the 100-400 and 500mm. Good that you used f8 here. The eye contact is nice.

You have to estimate the distance and use the focus limiter switch. That will help in acquiring focus faster. If the bird is far off, then there is no point in using the 4.5m to infinity setting as that will lead to the lens hunting for focus through the entire range.

Also, you can try moving the manual focus ring with your left hand a bit to acquire the focus faster. You will get a hang of it after sometime. You will start loving this lens. Thanks for sharing.

Composition looks nice. Nice details. Congrats on your new gear. The 7D coupled to a 500mm is a lethal weapon. So sharp, you could cut yourself ;)
