It is sad to hear that lot of snakes are killed at the shore. Could you get any frontal view of the snake? If possible a lower angle would have been good. I am not sure of the id. Thanks for sharing the information.

Some information from Wikipedia -

Sea snakes are venomous elapid snakes that inhabit marine environments for most or all of their lives. Though they evolved from terrestrial ancestors, most are extensively adapted to a fully aquatic life and are unable to even move on land, except for the genus Laticauda, which retain ancestral characteristics which allow limited land movement. They are found in warm coastal waters from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. All have paddle-like tails and many have laterally compressed bodies that give them an eel-like appearance. Unlike fish, they do not have gills and must surface regularly to breathe. They are among the most completely aquatic of all air-breathing vertebrates.[1] Among this group are species with some of the most potent venoms of all snakes. Some have gentle dispositions and bite only when provoked, but others are much more aggressive.

Good to see a sea snake image. However, I agree that lot of sea snakes get killed when they are caught on the fishing nets and die due to asphysiation. The trawlers virtually scrape the sea floor and capture everything in the net. The sea snakes, turtles etc are then thrown away.

It is interesting to note their tail portion which is an adaptation to help in swimming and a life in water.

Short Sea Snake Lapemis curtus.
They do get trapped in nets and die by asphyxiation, as Sabyasachi has mentioned. Many of them also get stranded on the shore at low tide and are very sluggish on land, but swim off when the tide comes in again.
Finding 100-150 dead snakes is a shocking and serious matter. Are you sure all were dead?

150 dead snakes is too much. This should immediately be reported to state fisheries and chief wildlife warden of the state.

Did you manage to take pictures of dead snakes ?

There is no antivenom available in India for sea snakes and the venom of these sea snakes are much more toxic than that of their inland cousins. Fortunately they seldom bite. Nevertheless, it is better to keep away from them.
