This is a herd of wild elephants with a calf. Spotted during an evening trek at Parambikulam WS (Kerala) during Oct 2010. Did not want to get closer for obvious reasons. Subject was around 60 m from me, and were quite aware of my presence by their reaction.

Camera: Fujifilm S2000 HD, 15X optical zoom
Exposure: Auto, Anti- shake, Handheld with support against a tree.

Its nice to see a elephant herd with cubs. Wish the tree in the middle was not present. A rectangular composition would look good. Thanks for sharing.

Nice image and good to see the herd with calves. Not so good when you are on foot as it can be quite dangerous. Agree with comments made by Mrudul

The elephants can run pretty fast. So it is always better to be cautious. The best way to photograph them, when you are on foot, is to wait at a place and allow them to approach close to you. Ofcourse, that means one needs to know their behaviour. The trackers can provide that knowledge.
