I was at the manjira bird sanctuary on the 1st of January. The place is popular as the main source of water for Hyderabad. However, it is a paradise for birds, specially during November-February:)

It was quite upsetting to see several cormorants that got stuck in fishing nets in the water that were set up illegally and more so because the concerned authorities weren't bothered by it! In the end though, we had managed to save as many as 5 birds:)

Well documented image Bhargava, I am glad you could rescue few birds. Is there any action being taken? It will be nice if you can send the images and a note of this to the authorities, and if no action is taken send it to the leading local new papers.

It is surely is a sad incident. You have captured it well. I agree with Praveen, you need to bring it to notice, else this will continue. I know it wont be easy but atleast bringing it to notice might stop it atleast for a few days. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Mrudul and Praveen sir, for dropping by your views:)

I did send a few images I had documented to the DFO of the area and he reacted positively! We wish to go back to the place next weekend and see if things have improved....if they haven't, I might have to pass the news to a few local news papers as suggested by Praveen sir.

Sad to see this. Lot of birds die due to fishing nets in our protected areas. Poor things. They struggle till they can do it no more and then die of exhaustion. It would be good if you can keep track of these areas and can drop in a letter and mail. I am sure our members will give a helping hand in shooting emails to concerned authorities.
