found this snake sitting on the door of my department on a fine morning, got rid of it when it moved slightly just half a foot above my head when i tried to open the door, stepped back and picked the camera to shoot it, there was very less light so used the normal program to shoot it...

Looks like a banded krait. They often enter the house during rains.

Nice species photographed. The top right corner is a bit distracting. Did you try a vertical? Thanks for sharing.

This is a Wolf Snake. It is non venomous and is often killed by mistake thinking it is a krait.

I think Bibhav is right. The bands were supposed to be closer in banded krait. Could you get any more images of this species?

Its common wolf snake (Lycodon aulicus) non venomous.

They are always mistaken as common Krait.

Common wolf snake are also highly nocturnal like Krait.and they are found through out India.

Sabyasachi: Banded Krait have Yellow bands, and they are not recorded in Karnataka.
they are found in west Bengal, bihar , Assam.and some parts of Maharashtra ,UP,MP.

Akshay

Akshay,
I agree with you. Not sure how I missed the white band in this. Memories (and learnings) fading. :(
Banded kraits are also found in Orissa. I have killed a lot of those during my child hood days till realisation dawned. Those were brutal days. One was kept as a specimen in a bottle filled with formalin in my house.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
