Arya,
One of the reasons is that you were shooting against the sky. So the camera will expose according to the sky (the meter reading is taken and with the sky occupying a large portion, you will get the subject underexposed). So in this case, you were supposed to dial in a positive exposure compensation. That would have resulted in the blacks and shadow areas getting proper exposure resulting in more details. At the moment, the details are less and pulling up the exposure in post processing will only result in more noise. You should again read this article on exposure: Indiawilds: Land of the Tiger. Conservation, Wildlife Photography, Communities (http://www.indiawilds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2006) Thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

Nice sighting. The eye contact is good. The 'V' shaped branch looks nice. Agree with Sabyasachi about the exposure. You could have used a lesser ISO as ISO 1600 has also induced lot of noise in the image. Look forward to more from Bandhavgarh. Thanks for sharing.

Is the image a big crop as well? A more rectangular, horizontal composition would look better in my opinion.
