Had spotted this beauty on a cold morning of November while cycling towards Kanheri...it was sitting calmly on top of a shrub and wasnt much bothered about me getting closer to it...It was surely an amazing moment and also could get a decent shot of it...only missed capturing the dramatic colours of its eyes...

Lovely stare. Wish the light was better. The background is bright. There is visible noise in the background, did you try to pull up the shadows? Giving a +ve exposure helps in such situations to get more details in the bird. Do post the equipment and EXIF details to help in critiquing. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with Mrudul. The light is not good. Also you were shooting against the light. In those conditions, if you crop, you are likely to get purple fringing.

You will get the beautiful red eye only if the sunlight falls on the eye.

Agree with the comments made. May be you could have tried moving to the right and if the bird was observing you, it would have turned its head as well and then the light would have been falling from the side rather than being completely opposite to the shooting angle and hence better than this:)

Nice eye contact.Vertical composition looks good.Lower angle would have been better.White background is bit distracting.TFS
