Was experimenting to expose for the subject and get background black. Looking fwd to some criticism.

Well tried and you're almost there.I haven't experimented this much, but what I understand is that the spot light has to be strong and perfect on the subject and negative EC must be -5 or more to under-expose the bg.

I am not a big fan of blackened images. It works in very few cases. For example the backlit polar bear image of Miguel Lasa that had won a prize in BBC sometime back. I am providing the link here: Polar sunrise - Miguel Lasa - Wildlife Photographer of the Year2008 (http://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit-us/whats-on/temporary-exhibitions/wpy/photo.do?photo=2428&category=50&group=1)

To achieve that one needs to visualise the scene. Just darkening by dialing in a negative exposure won't do. I am happy that you are experimenting. Certain compositions need to be visualised before hand. So visualise and then experiment. I am sure we will see some stunning stuff from you soon.

I liked the alert look. The side lighting is nice. I agree with the above comments. The details look nice. Thanks for sharing.

Agree with Praveen...also, an off centred composition would be good.
