A vertical would suit this better. Also, a narrower aperture like f7.1 will be good. The focus seems way off the bird...which focus point do you use often? If you let the camera decide, the probability is that the focus will lock on to a region having more contrast..so it is better to use a single AF point.

Which lens were you using? the image appears soft. Which metering mode were you using? Evaluative?

The perch is nice. Agree with the above comments, seems the focus is locked on the branch. Do check the AF point in DPP. You could have also tried increasing the aperture to get more details. Less space on the left and more space in the direction the bird is looking would be good. Thanks for sharing.
