EOS 550D / 1/400s/ Lens 75- 300, f/5.6 ,ISO 500 Mode AV, light condition not good.

Deer look like ....

Spotted deer are known to do this when there is not sufficient grass available on the ground during summers. A process of evolution, I believe!

And 1/400sec is good enough for a sharp shot..only thing is you need to use a bean bag to get stability as the 75-300 does not have image stabilisation:)

YES. Spotted Deer(Cheetal) is both a Grazer and a Browzer.There is no co-relation with availability of grass.Tender leaves of select trees are even preferred. SaktiWild

Nice behavior captured. Agree more sharpness would be good. You can use a bean bag or rest the lens or use proper hand holding techniques to get sharp images. Check the thread below for more information -

It is always interesting to watch the spotted deer stand up on their hind legs to reach for the green leaves. Wish you were more to the right. That would have helped in avoiding the deer at the bottom of the frame. Moving to the right would also have helped in getting frontal lighting on the deer. Thanks for sharing.
