Difficult to say.But possibility of Leopard attack in the open which could not catch hold of throat because of resistance put up by herd of Gaurs is nearest approximation.SaktiWild.

Nice interaction captured. The eye contact is nice. It seems they were quite close to you, maybe just a bit adjusting would have been good to add a bit more space from the top to the bottom. The wound looks like a deep cut, good to see it is healing. Wish the light was better. Thanks for sharing.

Nice record of the harsh realities of the natural world. The young and weak are easy targets. On a different note this cudnot have been a predator at all.very difficult to say.

Its a big wound. In nature there is no wanton killing. When one species dies there are many others who will survive on it.

Wish you were slightly further from the calves, as the scene is a bit tight with the hooves cut off at the bottom of the frame.

Cheers,

Certainly not the ideal conditions for a good shot, but it's good that you recorded this. The wound is clearly visible. Not sure about the attacker.

Melancholy of these two calves render a story of their safety. Nice capture.
