From BR Hills, Karnataka, India.

Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Ef 400mm f2.8 L IS USM, EF 1.4xII TC, 1/640, f4, ISO 1600, full frame image, fired from hip. :)

I was not prepared for this one and had to twist, raise the camera and fire looking at the lcd screen at the back. I am happy that I did not cut off the back of the barking deer.

Cheers,

I like the low angle you shot this from. The pose of the deer is unique too :) Did you try a vertical crop if it won't be too much crop? Was it possible under the conditions to shoot at a lower shutter speed and subsequently a lower ISO?

Bhargava,
Do you mean why I didn't click a vertical or are you asking me to crop this image to a vertical composition?

There was no way I could have clicked a vertical as I was shooting like a photojournalist. :D On hindsight, I am thinking I would have cutoff some portion, if I would have tried a vertical. This barking deer didn't stay more than a moment or two in this position.

Somehow I am not keen on cropping during post processing. I am more of an artist with the camera rather than with the computer.

Surjaaditta,

I am sure you will soon be able to learn and improve your photography.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Thanks for the quick response Sabyasachi. I guessed that this animal didn't give you too much time to think before shooting, so I didn't even want to ask you if you 'shot' a vertical image. I was only wondering if you tried to crop it vertically and see if the image quality was still decent..somehow I have a feeling that a vertical might look even better (?)

thanks
