I agree that if you get the light right, the vent will be prominent. In bird photography, one needs to keep in mind the identification features as well. A vertical would have been better, as the tail is clipped.

I too would have liked a vertical better. That said, you got the red whisker nicely. What equipment was this shot with?

The eye contact is nice. Agree a vertical composition would have been good to include the tail. Also you could have used a slight narrower aperture. Look forward to more. Thanks for sharing.

@Bhargava - it was shot using Canon EOS 1100 D with 55-250mm IS lens.
