Spotted Deer - Monochrome

I feel spotted deers are very good to present in Monochrome. Here's an attempt. Please comment/criticize and provide inputs if anything has to changed for the monochrome presentation.
Exif: 1/1600s, f4, ISO 100.
Eq used: Canon 400D, 300mm f4 IS.

The b/w composition gives a nice feel to the image. Was the light harsh when you photographed, as the eyes look dark and there are some dark areas. Maybe you can try increasing the brightness a bit, not sure. The alert looks nice. Thanks for sharing.

I agree that Spotted deer suit monochrome well. In fact, I am looking for an image where a spotted deer is sprinkling off the water on it during the monsoons, and will like to present it in monochrome! Not sure when I will be able to take such a picture. I like this image, but would have preferred a singled out deer with no other animals in the BG.

One can create good black and white images of spotted deer. However, the image needs to be created keeping in mind things that will appeal in black and white. Black and white images look great when there is patterns/repeated patterns, great texture, leading lines etc.

In this case, I would have preferred to create a composition with a single deer from an angle where the eyes and head were lighted. The shadow of the head falling on the neck area doesn't add to the image. Keeping the Sun behind your back might have been a good idea.
