Grey Heron

Hi,

Shot this one in Pune. Was sitting in the hide along the coast of river Mula when this one appeared right in front of me. I watched this one stand there for around 15 mins before an approaching fishermen scared it away.

Please critique this image.

Nice eye contact & composition.But why f/10,when the shutter speed is so low.Wish the branches in the front were not there.Thanks for sharing.

Agree with the above comments. Did you forget to change the aperture? Its good you got the eye in clear. Slight less space on left would be good. Thanks for sharing.

If you want to try low shutter speeds on a tripod or bean bag, then check the mirror lock up option in the camera. You may check this tutorial on mirror lockup: Indiawilds: Land of the Tiger. Conservation, Wildlife Photography, Communities (http://www.indiawilds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=410)

Since these birds remain still in one position for a long time, you can click images with lower shutter speeds and still get a sharp image.

Good that you got the bird in focus even with the clutter around. Why f10 when the shutter speed was so low?

Thanks for the comments. This image was captured using tripod.

Initial shots were taken using higher shutter speed. As the bird was very still, I wanted to experiment, so went for lower shutter speed and narrower aperture.

Sabyasachi, Thanks for sharing the link, have gone through it. Was aware about the mirror lockup option in the custom settings. On this occasion was shooting in live view mode so mirror was locked up.

Only thing that I missed was remote shutter release using remote switch. I've been looking around for it for about couple of months, but it is out of stock; expecting to get it by this weekend.

Attaching 100% crop. Please let me know if you guys can spot any evidence of camera shake.
