PP done: 10% crop, Levels adjusted and subject sharpened very slightly.
Eg used: Canon 400D, 300mm f4 + 1.4x tc. Handheld

Well composed. The exposure seems right too :) What was the exposure compensation? The clean BG and the fact that there is just the bird and practically nothing else in the frame makes this image a delight to view, even though there isn't a 'habitat' in the image!

Thanks Bhargava. Sorry forgot to mention. I always shoot in manual mode (not always the best, but its a habit). So no exposure compensation here.

The low angle is nice. Good details and eye contact. You could have used a narrower aperture to get the tail in focus as the shutter speed was quite high. Nicely captured. Thanks for sharing.

Where was this photographed?

I would say that Manual mode is good when the light is not changing fast or the subject is suddenly not jumping from light to dark areas etc. Each metering has got its pros and cons and one needs to evaluate and use those according to their strengths.

If you are filming, then obviously, Manual is the only way.

Hi Sabyasachi...very true about the metering modes. This was shot in Hebbal Lake in Bangalore, my sunday morning birding spot :)
