Heavy crop as close as 70% was taken out from the original frame. I can see lot of noise a the lower part of the bird (in the shadow area). I would not remove it in PP through neat image. I guess I should have over exposed another stop while taking this image to avoid it?

I remember shooting this, ISO 400 with f7.1 would have done the job. The catch-light is nice and details have come out well

ISO 800 and crop will lead to noise. When you are cropping a lot ie. when the subject is far away, the depth of field automatically increases. So you can use a wider aperture here. That would have allowed you to use one stop lower ISO as well. Did you pull up the shadows during processing? Thanks for sharing.

Praveen and Sabyasachiji,

Thanks a lot for your inputs. Yes I did recover the shadows a bit (say 15%) to get the details of underbelly parts and that's where the noise showed up.
