This was photographed in Bharatpur last week. It was a very surprising action and I was not prepared for it to yawn as it was lying quite still. There was lot of vegetation from where I was photographing :(. But surely it was great to see and photograph this behavior.

Sabyasachi, I hope you get some time from your busy schedule and post your image soon, quite eager to see it.

Canon 50D, 400 2.8 L IS USM, f7.1, ISO 400, 1/400, full frame

Comments and critiques welcome.

Awesome picture.Only after seeing this, some people who are yet to believe that a python can swallow an adult chital with ease, may now possibly be convinced.

During my Delhi days, I visited Bharatpur once and a Rock Python came out of a hole in the tree trunk and was hanging at my eye level to bid farewell to me.

But I had a notebook and a pen!
Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

Great pic Mrudul. You dont post many but the ones posted by you are awsome as this one.The leaf may look like a hindrance but as you look closer it seem to have added some variety to the pic.

Very nice image. The details on the inside of the mouth are lovely. The leaf is a distraction but in such moments, one just has to click lest the moment goes past.

Nice timing and details. wish it was in the clear, it is not often u get to see the insides of the mouth of a large python...:001_smile:

They do this to readjust the jaw bones.Pythons, infact most snakes have adjustable jaw bones which allows them to swallow large prey.

Watching this was a blessing. There was no time to react except for pressing the shutter. Despite the leaf at the top and sticks at the bottom, the focus is on the python. That is not an easy task.

It was tough to schedule this trip, however it was worth it. I will have to download my images once I am back again in Delhi in the weekend and then post.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
