Grey Hornbill

[Mrudul Godbole]

Photographed in Bharatpur. It was a bit difficult to photograph as it kept flying off. I had to hide behind a tree to take some images. Wish the bark was not present :(.

Canon 50D, 100-400 mm L IS USM, ISO 400, f6.3, 1/1250,EC +0.3, hand held, slight crop from right.

True, its very difficult to photograph it.
Even i had a tough time photographing it near mysore as it kept on flying from one branch to other.

Lovely image Mrudul, so similar to the Malabar Hornbills. The details have come out well, the OOF branch on left is distracting.

I agree that this was a tough one to click. For some reason or the other, I have always failed to click this species in bharatpur. :(

Most of the times they perch in tall branches. One needs to wait. In bharatpur these days, there are hardly any tall trees to provide you with cover to hide and approach close. In this area wood cutting by villagers is rampant. Most of the vegetation cover is gone. Sad state of affairs.
