This was shot in Bhitarkanika. Was lucky to get this Rare species. Couldn't manage any better shots though from the moving boat. Focus is not locked on accurately.

Good to see this one. Love it vibrant colours. The shape of the branch is nice. Better luck next time.

Cheers,

Nice rare image of a mangrove specialist,a very colourful bird with a strongly built red bill. It has perched on a mangrove plant Dhundul (Xylocarus granatum),as it appers to me from the leaf.Indian Sundarbans have seven species of commonly seen kingfishers, Bhithrkanika may not be lagging far behind. Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild

Shakti Sir,
Bhitarkanika also has confirmed 7 species ie Small Blue KF, White Throated KF, Pied KF, Collared KF, Black Capped KF, Stork Billed KF and the Brown Winged KF. There are unconfirmed reports of Rudy KF also being sighted bringing the number to 8.

You managed a good shot given the circumstances. Nice eye contact. This image certainly is for keeps. I remember sighting 7 species (except the ruddy KF) during my trip 3 years back.

Nice image and the beak is the highlight which has been captured well. The habitat seems interesting, if you do have habitat shots please post it sometime.
