Black kite in flight

This one had just taken off the perch. Unfortunately the image is not as sharp as I would have liked. It was pretty quick to take off. At least needed 1/2000 to get a better freeze.

Probably should have gone for ISO 800 to be able to get higher shutter speed. Image gets very noisy at ISO 800 so I generally tend to avoid.

I agree with your self critique. The take off pose is nice. I would have liked slight more space at the top. I think, as it is a 50% cropped there is some loss of details. You should find some way of getting closer. Thanks for sharing.
