Limicola falcinellus

A Scarce and threatened species world wide it often joins other wader flocks from which it can be easily distinguished by its fast feeding movements where it repeatedly pokes its bill into the wet mud. The split supercilium (two stripes on each side of the head with a dark median stripe) is a definitive Id feature. It is smaller than the similar Dunlin and curlew sandpiper and has a distinctive large bill which suddenly tapers towards the end. This is Non breeding individual on its winter visit . Shot near Thalassery (North kerala) in sep 2011 on a dull and over cast day.
