There were about 15 of them male; female and cubs (why don't we include them either in male or female ?) feasting on a kill in thick shade. This time around I was in a group of photographers and were advised to shoot in AV. I am not happy with the results.
AV mode; f 5.6; 1/400; ISO 1250; 100-400 @ 400

Nice one. The tint needs to be corrected. Is there more space at the left to show the complete ear? The image is sharp.
Why do you say she is in pain?
Mail me this image and another image which you feel is clicked with a different setting so that I can advise. Av, TV, Program, Manual etc are exposure options and anyone with proper knowledge of exposure can get the right results. I click in AV, TV and also in manual. Better to stick to one and then understand how it works. You can mail the RAW images in separate emails as the max size allowed in gmail is 25mb.

The emotions captured look nice. Good details. Agree about the reddish tint. Including the ear on the left would enhance the composition further.

Had you joined any workshop? Or you were just trying what other photographers around were saying? I normally click in Av, and dont find any problem with it. Why were you not happy with the results? Thanks for sharing.

Agree with comments made. Personally, I feel that there is too much space to the right and hence becomes negative.

Thanks for your inputs. Here I left space to the left as I thought a cropping closer to the mouth will be too close. Just a perception. :-)

Mrudul, I was in a tour (for the first and last time) conducted by some photographers-tour-operators and went by what they were suggesting to the group. I have not attended any workshops though I would like to attend subject specific workshops. I normally click in TV.
There is a conflict of interest in the tour operator- photographers. They are professional photographers taking the best place in the gypsy with their own interest in photography and good images.

Frankly speaking you are right. Some people can't draw a balance between their own interest and that of their "clients". When someone is offering a workshop or tour, the people who are going are the clients and deserve service. Unfortunately, that kind of professionalism is not there in India.
Last year we had gone to bandhavgarh and had hired three jeeps. Our cost was virtually half that of the tour operators. Mrudul was going from one jeep to the other in different safaris to help others. One needs to put in a little bit more planning and effort.
I did a hasty job in coverting your image. It needs a very slight correction.
Cheers,
