taken in my backyard. has been looking to catch this guy for a long time, since it is difficult spot them during the day time. only the unusual call from it among other bird calls alerted me to look for it.

Nice sighting. Good eye contact. Its good you got it with the eyes wide open, as usually during the day they are sleeping. Thanks for sharing.

Difficult sighting.Good image.Thanks for sharing.SaktiWild
P.S.:Please try to provide Scientific Name,if possible in cases of uncommon birds. Its a Jungle Owlet(Glaucidium radiatum). As the term 'Barred' is added, we had to recheck with Asian Barred Owlet(Glaucidium cuculoides).

thanks everyone. i believe these are another sub-species of Glaucidium radiatum called Glaucidium radiatum malabaricum(Malabar Jungle owlet) which are usually found in Kerala and the western ghats. they seem to be active during day time also since i saw one of them catching a fly, even though they are believed to be much active during dawn and dusk.
