Hi all

After quite a hectic schedule the past 18 months at my new ventures, I finally think i am good to return to my passion (Photography). However, need to revamp my photo gear. First start was the body and here is the new baby . . . Now planning a decent L series prime. What would be a good light weight prime, mostly for birding / mammals, which will compliment my existing glass collection of 70-300, 100 - 400 and the 150-500. Do let me have your thoughts and advices.
regards
Rajan

Rajan,
Welcome back to the passionate world! I am happy that finally your venture is in auto pilot mode.

Since you already have the 100-400 and the sigma, I think you should get a longer tele.
The options are :
300f2.8 IS (first as well as the latest IS II versions)
500 f4 L IS USM or new 500 f4 L IS II USM (the new version is yet to hit the market)
600mm f4 L IS USM or the new and yet to be available 600 f4 L IS II USM.

The 600mm f4 L IS USM is not light weight. Neigther is my 400mm f2.8 L IS USM. Of course the new 400mm f4 L IS II USM is light, it costs about 11k+ USD. Haven't checked the price in India, as I am not planning to buy it.

The 300mm f2.8 L IS II USM is 7299 USD in US. Bhargava has bought it here in India. He can tell how much he paid here. It works well with both the 1.4x and 2x TCs.

If you go for the 500mm f4 IS USM, that will be great for your needs.
