We lost our way to Annamalaicheri and drove some 30+kms more through villages along the pulicat lake.. Almost 4 kms to Annamalaicheri stopped car for having a smoke and found a pond next to where i stopped and there were two pied kingfishers there. And these guys probably have coming looking for some breakfast.

What a luck.. clicked some 100 images..hoping atleast 30% come good.

This is also posted in rush processing with Canon SW and cropped in Picasa.

Bird was around 30 to 40 mtrs away from on the other end of the pond.

Kindly advise on what i had missed this image better than what i did.

This looks like a large crop so the details are not there.

The shutter speed for these flying bullets need to be higher.

A 1.4x converter would have helped. However, it will also reduce the speed of focus acquisition. For clicking these birds, it is important to get the focus right.

Nice to see a pied kingfisher in flight. Agree it is quite difficult to acquire focus on these small birds if they are far. Also as Sabyasachi has mentioned, if cropped the details are lost. It would have been good if it was closer as you had a decent shutter speed. Thanks for sharing.

I am planning to get the converter in another 2 months. I enjoy capturing flights .. that to small and fast birds is a great challenge.....
