The master of the canopy
ID: Malabar giant squirrel
One of the most prized beauty of the western ghats, these beautiful creature, categorized as rodents, are always a delight to spot and encounter. It seemed we had a great luck as we could spot three of them, one after the other, with this particular one being the most courageous and cooperative one, unlike others who fled the scene on realizing our presence. This pale beauty tried to evict the other, darker, squirrel out of this canopy and later stayed around surveying the newly captured territory and taking some rest, atleast that what's we assumed it was doing. Later, after almost 5-10mins, it slowly started to move off, probably on a look out for some fresh food, hence almost disappearing in the denser area of the canopy, once it started climbing up the branches

Nice sighting. Photographing it high up in the canopy is quite difficult. Its interesting to see its pale colour. Thanks for sharing.

Nice. These are always tough to photograph against foliage and sky unless you're at a slightly elevated position. If I'm not mistaken, this one seems to be the north Maharashtra subspecies.
